They give you just enough small wins so you don't notice all the money you're losing and you keep playing.
And there's practically zero chance to get the jackpot.
Also they rig it so that it always looks like you were so close to winning something good but in reality you were no where near close to getting it.
It's an insidious practice and i almost wish it were to be banned, but as history has shown prohibition almost always makes more problems than it solves.
