Here's another version of the simpler flag, this one's as simple as it can get without the key elements of the flag being lost.

Thirteen red and white stripes representing the thirteen colonies, and a 5-pointed star for representing a united country with 50 states (1 point on the star = 10 states), the blue is retained as well.
