No, it wont be mushroom clouds and black rain but rather decades if not centuries of economic collapes, mass unemployment, marshall law, environmental disasters on an unprecedented level due to the breakdown of industries, constant small scale warfare and mass gang violence/mass national riots, end of all modern transportation after the first year of oil industry collapse, never before seen death toll and subsequent outbreaks of multiple forms of megadeath-disease and viruses and most importantly the tipping-point of agriculture.
Nuclear war would be a much better option. Although a lot of people would die, all parties involved don't have the hearts and minds or lack the quality of work and ethics required to sustain a world war like the generations of the great war and ww2. The war would be very short and destructive but would provide an immediate threat to the world that may allow to make the uuge changes needed for civilization to continue.
