what frightens me is that they might have rolled out some vastly superior algorithm from the previous one that needs time to learn. of course i have no reason to think that, but still.
a third option is sort of what you said - by making the results shitty and useless, they are deliberately reducing the amount and quality of information we have access to. they already have an overwhelming monopoly, so maybe they think they can get away with worsening their service
