That was a mess from mid to late 90’s. An organisation called Animal Liberation Front made guerilla strikes to fox and mink farms and released hundreds of those into wild by opening the gages.
Obviously animals didn’t flee that much further, instead caused horrible damage to a local wildlife. There were no wild birds, rabbits, domestic cats left alive within square kilometers around the farms. Especially minks killed tens of thousands of bird chicks, because that’s what minks do. Of course Animal Liberation Front, PETA and other such organisations ignored completely the damage caused to an actual wildlife. It was a mess.
It is also very much believed that the picture is staged by said organisation(s).
