>>3296982It's interesting how the natives of NZ have some similarities to the culture of natives in the US (exclude Mexico, I mean tribes in the US and Canada, Mexico's natives had their own empire until the Spanish came). I live near a reservation of western Apaches (athabaskan native group) and their culture as warriors remains to this day, the US even named its famous combat helicopter after them. Except there are a lot of natives that have bad blood with the US still, we killed about 100,000 of them on the continent in a 100 year period, but vice versa they were killing every single settler they saw, and killed 30,000 settlers in the same 100 year period. The natives are quite mixed on opinions of the US, some are really patriotic (native Americans make up the largest group per capita to enlist in the US military, more than whites and blacks, and they do it more out of patriotism). Others hold 200 year old grudges and feed off of the welfare system their entire lives. An interesting thing for foreigners to look up about the US, is that native American tribal reservations act as their own mini country in many ways, some are even called tribal "nations", which have their own laws and regulate their own land while also practicing some federal and state laws. One of the theories for how humans got to the Americas is the Alaskan land bridge and Polynesian islanders landing in central America over 10,000 years ago, the natives in my area have lived here for just 800 years.
