Why are there still smoke grenades in video games they are pointless the smoke often times doesn't block view and you can easily step away from the smoke

Also, some games do smoke well. I don't like CS:GO but they have some decent smoke clouds.
Ultimately, even the worst coded smoke grenade can disorientate and hinder the vision of players.

I'm not a big fan of competitive FPS at all, I honestly feel they are ruining the video game industry by pushing e-sports.

Nothing wrong with competitive games, I played a lot of Starcraft and Age of Empires when I was younger. There are also MMORPGs, which incorporate a different sense of competitiveness along with the classic sense (PvP).
Recently I've been playing a lot of sim games and resource management games like Rimworld and Factorio.

I use smoke bombs all the time in Arma. Useful to heal teammate without getting shot by snipers.
