We have the 2nd largest high speed network in the world just after China and before japan,and it makes absolutely no sense at all since we have nowhere near the population density to make it economically profitable or even sustainable but it is built by political decisions since all the autonomous regions meme for it.
We should seriously consider the french model of cheap and frequent decent regional services so people use more the railways and highs peed services only where necessary (in spain case the line from France, to barcelona to madrid and to Sevilla would be more than enough)
The infrastructure is sometimes lacking due to all the investment in high speed meme trains that won't be profitable, so in some areas we have single line for commuter trains that mean the service is too easily delayed.
