The south would have won if they hadn't chosen to have the conflicts nearly exclusively in the south (as a point of honor,) and if the north hadn't commited countless war crimes - Lincoln declared war without Congress' consent, provoked the first shot at Fort Sumter, suspended the writ of Habeus Corpus immediately, imprisoned southern empathizers for the entirety of the duration of the war without trial. He ordered the largest execution in American history, killing 38 Dakotah indians - because they sided with the south. The northern troops raped the southern people and pillaged the southern lands, which you can read about in Sherman's memoirs. And don't bring slavery into this - slaves were allowed in both the north and south; Lincoln never cared about them, and his inaugural address stated that he had no intention of freeing them; he was also a white supremacist, whole-heartedly. He threatened to hang entire regiments of Black northerners because they did not comply with him; in the south, regiments weren't segregated. And even still, a higher percent of black and indian men owned slaves than white men.
