What are some gimmicks you have enjoyed, are currently enjoying, or want to have in a videogame?

I'm currently playing Breath of the Wild, and I gotta say it does two things that I really like.

One is filling out your own map. In conjunction with the shrines as fast travel points, it's really fulfilling to mark what you feel is important.

This is also why I enjoy the memories you must recover by picture. Just by looking at them it evokes a memory about a certain area, so you have to learn about the locations. It forces you to remember, revisit, and understand locations much more integrally.

So what are other gimmicks or things that make you appreciate a videogame /bant/?
