Isn't recovering an economy by any means necessary a good thing if there's no other option? I do think Russia has the potential to be an industrial powerhouse in the same level of China if solar and wind energy is invested in with said oil money, it's what Saudi Arabia is readying itself to do that sort of thing anyway.
A planned economy IS better than capitalism for its completely eliminates corporate greed and inflation. The Soviet Union was the only WW1-involved country that wasn't affected by the great depression after all, and they managed to catch up to a level of industrialization that took Germany and Britain over a century in mere decades, and in the middle of a war by invading forces that they managed to kick back too. You need to think about WHY people like Stalin so much or why is he so much more popular than Putin.
