Apu, as stupid as he was, was okay when his use was the baby talk threads because that was original and not just shitty frogposting using him to get attention, and they even had the sense of self to be able to not take themselves too seriously so you could abuse Apu or put him in silly situations that Pepe is "too cool 4 school". If you just make him an uglier Pepe, he loses that.
