But we have definitely kept our own culture intact. You can tell by our language, appearance and gene heritage (there was a recent Harvard study about it). The Ottoman empire did not really care about Christians, they were so fond of their own kind and religion they wouldn't rape or inter-marry with Greeks, they would give us a hard time, collect taxes and that is about it. Turks really did not want to mix with Greeks.
Our only misfortune was that being under strict Ottoman rule, we lost the renaissance and the advancements Europe experiences in 1500s-1900s so during the last century we have been trying to catch up, unsuccessfully.
