I like the story of the German Democratic Republic's first hand calculator. They couldn't develop any microchips by themselves in that short amount of time so they've just bought Texas Instruments Calculators in West Germany, scratched off the texas intstruments logos of the processors and built them in their own calculator

Slot 1 Pentiums 3s only went up to what, 800MHz?
I admit they look nice but thats about it, and the heatsink was an absolute pain in the ass to remove.

It’s funny how today, we need giant heat sinks for our processors, even stock coolers are quite large. The Pentium III stock heat sink was really small, about the size of a satsuma.
