Buxton is a town that is excluded from the Peak District (a national park). Look at the map of the park and you'll see a chunk missing, that is Buxton.
Buxton is surrounding by chemical plants and much of the land is tainted. There is a ""lake"" nearby that is bright blue and Buxtonians would swim in it because it "looked tropical". The reason it is blue is because of a chemical reaction caused by mass dumping of factory waste, it has a Ph of 11 (I think that was it). It is in the news and you'll find it with a google search. Buxton also was subject to the testing of WW1 chemical weapons and one of the populous areas is literally built right next to it.
You can see from the road I drive quite regularly a toxic sludge, also visible from Google earth. Who knows what the fuck this is, it forms a kind of salt I've never seen before. I'll post pics if I find any
