Other than the Civil War, the only other time, that I am aware of, that US states nearly went to "war" with each other was the "water wars" between Arizona and California over the Parker Dam, Arizona deployed 100 troops from its national guard fully armed and loaded with machine gun crews and were told to fire on the dam workers if they crossed into the AZ side, but the dispute was ultimately settled in court. Southern CA still hogs most of the water in the 4 corners/southwest states region.
