>>3607754In my two years of being here, this is what I can recall off the top of my head in a possibly inaccurate time line.
1)Former marine who married a local and had a child (who also included his wife's last name into his after their marriage) worked for an internet provider that operates off of the us military installations one day decided to drive around looking for a victim. He found a 20 year old girl who he then proceeded to kidnap, rape, murder, and butcher her body and placed her remains into a large luggage bag and dump on the side of a road in some farm lands.
2) During the "period of mourning" following that incident, an enlisted member in the navy got drunk, drove on the wrong side of the road, and caused a 4-car crash. Note that during this period, drinking off base was strictly prohibited.
3) Drunk navy member on a flight back from Tokyo proceeded to harrass and grope a local on the airplane back to Okinawa.
4)Navy member attempts to rape a drunk mainland Japanese tourist in a hotel here in Okinawa
5) Osprey crashes into the water off the coast of northern part of Okinawa, residents reaffirm their fear of the aircraft
6) various DUIs and crashes (would consider it a "quiet period" from major incidents
7) Ch53 helicopter catches fire in flight and lands in a local farmers field and proceeds to become engulfed in flames, again, residents fears reaffirmed
8) Drunk marine steals government vehicle and kills a local elderly man in a head on collision
9) helicopter window falls into school yard almost killing a child
Yep, plenty of reasons to dislike us, and that's just two years.
