he probably means all that trash about always doing what you personally like, all the time, always think of yourself before others, etc. i've gotten close (to my regret) with people who read all these self helf books that teach you this stuff "do what makes you happy :), always think of number one, nobody will love you if you don't love yourself" and that person was useless as a friend. they would not do something that would inconvenience them for another person, they would only help if it didn't cost them anything, they would not spend time with you if they didn't feel like it, even if you need them etc. it's like being selfish, but more complex.
another aspect of hyper individualism is teaching you that it's somehow shameful to be part of a group. that you have to be an island, or you're weak. like if you feel proud that Slovenia is a good country, people would tell you "hurr what do you care, you didn't have anything to do with it, you were just born there. all that matters is what you make for yourself :)".
it's that type of thinking that is destructive, not simply "being an indivdual"
