>>3648197Some smart people actually just genuinely enjoy lifting.
I'm not one of them, I can't stand it because it's fucking boring (an hour and a half locked in a smelly stifling room picking things up and putting them back down again? No thanks) but one of my smart friends is a "creative type" and he says he likes lifting because it provides him measurable accomplishment. It's hard to measure if you're getting better at writing prose. There is no quantifiable improvement. Whereas with weightlifting you can point to the bar and say "I am five kilograms stronger this week than I was last week." Some people dig that. It's not for me though.
On the other hand, I think that in general you have to be a pretty fucking dull person to be able to go to the gym every day for an hour or so and lift weights and actually be content with that. It's such a waste of fucking time. And it's not even challenging. Literally all you have to do is turn up and lift weights. There's no skill or improvement involved. It's just "invest time = get results."
And, true to form, everyone except the one guy I just described that I know who lifts weights religiously (including my current bf) is really fucking dull. Not necessarily unintelligent (though they're certainly not smart), but just fucking dull. Boring people with boring lives and a very boring hobby.
Eh.
