People organized "bride fairs" and festivals for boys and girls to meet, from different villages, spanning across the region, not outside of it.
People worked fields, jobs, apprenticeships that were outside their village, into other villages, so they met a lot of people.
And everybody knew everybody, every scoundrel, every whore, every liar, every drunkard was known to be so and were shunned, ostracized and punished by their priest, community and mayor.
