The smallest living dolphin is the Maui’s dolphin from the west coast of New Zealand. It measures 1.7m in length and weighs 50kg.
The Maui’s dolphin is also among the rarest of marine mammals. It is critically endangered, as of 2015 estimates of the population were around 50 individuals in the wild.
