>>3680231True but our annual GDP is over 18 trillion, so if we literally didn't pay anything else for a full year we could pay off our entire national debt in a year. But realistically if we reduced our military spending and federal spending both by half and used that extra money to put towards payments on our debt, we would be paying off about 1 trillion a year and potentially be able to be debt free in 20 years, providing we don't get involved in any new wars during that time. But our government will never do anything actually meaningful about our debt, and it doesn't effect very much at all other than hurt our national image which is already absolute shit.
