Here's a saying I heard once:
An old man had the habit of resting on a bench in the train station everyday. Once upon a time a passenger that got out of an incoming train saw him and decided to ask:
Old man, are you from around here?
Lived here my whole life said the old man.
So I come from another town. Had to move here because of work. How is life here?
old man again: First, how was life in the place you left?
It was great, everyone was friendly, etc.
old man: Don't worry, it's the same here.
Another day, another guy asks the same. When asked how life was in his old place, he answers:
awful, everyone was an asshole, etc
I'm afraid it's the same here, said the old man.
An younger local witnessing this asks the old man: why did you give them different answers?
The old man: I gave them the same answer actually. The man makes the place, not the other way around.
