>>3719738During the War of 1812, back when the British were the absolute world super power, during the negotiations with the British, President Madison told his negotiators to request that Canada and the US merge creating a North American super state. However due to the tense nature of the negotiations, the subject was never brought up and the border between Canada and the US was set at roughly 50 degrees north latitude. Similarly, during the Mexican-American war and leading up to it, Mexico ceded almost half of its territory the USA (all of California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and parts of Colorado and New Mexico and Wyoming and Texas). However, despite these incredibly massive gains, the people of the US at the time wanted to keep going and grab Baja California and parts of Sonora and Chihuahua as well. The North American super state was narrowly missed on these two occasions.
