Hence the difficulty of the language for native European language speakers. In the US military Russian and Arabic are considered extremely difficult, classed as a stage 3 language on a 4 stage system, with a 4th stage language being the hardest and a 1st stage language being the easiest, Japanese and Chinese are both 4th stage languages in the US military translation system (even more difficult than Russian and Arabic).
