I lived there for a year. It is pretty safe in all areas except Bijlmer (spelling) near the arena.

If you smoke or do truffles I highly recommend sitting in Vondelpark until it settles a little and you get your bearings before just fucking off into the city and getting lost. You'll just stumble upon amazing things

Don't take photos of the prostitutes. Watch for pickpocketers and don't respond to African men beckoning you over on the street. Don't buy any powders from them especially

Just explore, have fun. Cycle around it is easy as fuck.

Not really but it is still great fun. Clubs close earlier than they do here in the UK at least. People are more conservative in how they act on nights out, more friendly, less fights. You'll find loads of Brits out to ruin this aspect of Amsterdam, though

I was excited about the legal drugs and the red light district desu. Legal drugs as in weed and acid maybe, nothing worse.

I don't think acid is legal in NL.
Only weed and shrooms afaik.
I don't know exactly if foreigner are allowed to buy weed in coffeeshops, but if you find the right (maybe a little shady) one, they'll sell it to you anyway.
At least that's what me and my friends did when we visited Amsterdam.

I don't trust no shady, dark.alley individual and if that's the case I will most likely not smoke.
Shrooms sounds fun but I read that they've been outlawed for a few years.

You absolutely can smoke weed. 5g is the purchasing limit.

As I said earlier I lived there as a Brit and can confirm. Shrooms are illegal but truffles (same psychoactive substance but slightly weaker so just take more) are legal and free to buy for foreigners.

I'm not quite accostumed to their daily ethic and I don't want to spite anybody, not even by chance.
Speaking of which, is there some place I should definitely avoid? Some dangerous spot in the city?
How is night life? Not that I really care, but I'm actualy interested in sightseeing and such.
