Abortion at all kills a child and abstinence is the only way to prevent having children. I don't think it's a ridiculous proposal to say "don't have sex if you are going to regret having kids."
Obv rape is an exception, but I don't think a child deserves to die for that, either. Just don't punish the mother for that.
