It isn't really easy for someone to prove that Earth is round without relying on an indirect observation unless you had a ton of money to invest.
That is however the case for many experiments, you don't really see what's going on; you can only rely on the results the experiment yields and match it with a mathematical model. Even though it works with impeccable precision you don't have the guarantee that your model is true.
