>>3765830the only real thing admitting guilt does legally speaking is refresh the amount of time they have to collect, so if your debt is new anyways it doesnt matter too much
do these things immediately m8
1) sign up for credit carma or something like that. get the app. its free and really easy
2) for the collectors in question (the ones calling), send them a "cease and deist letter" in the mail. there are tons of templates online and all you do is plug in your info
they wont tell you who they are or who they work for when they call you. the reason for this is that they dont want to get one of these letters. after they get it, it is illegal for them to contact you, your family, friends, employer, whatever. the only thing they can do after that is take it to court, which will not happen for 2000 bucks and even if it did its not the end of the world because they can only take a certain % of your check, like child support. there are egal limits and they can only garnish what you owe.
and anyways they wont take you to court over 2000 bucks because they have to serve you with legal docs, get a lawyer, and come to your court jurisdiction for trial. most of these agencies dont have the resources for that. they are usually convicts & dropouts. even if they did its not worth 2000 bucks. they are just scaring you anon. they cant do anything to harm you.
ALSO - if you want to go another route and pay, you need to know that these agencies buy
this debt for pennies on the dollar. if you want to settle it (which you shouldnt imo) you can offer then 20% of the amount and they will usually take it. but if you do that, send the letter (without payment) of your settlement offer (again, online template) and make sure that they respond to you in writing before you pay anything. then save the documents. COMMUNICATE EVERYTHING IN WRITING. DONT DO ANYTHING ON THE PHONE. THEIR INFO IS LISTED ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT IF THE DEBT IS LEGIT
