I grew up in rural America and went to private schools in a nearby large city. It was good to become educated like I did, but at the same time, I saw first hand the contrast between the fake, materialistic, city people and the poor yet down-to-earth rural working class.
I got the best of both worlds really. Rural Americans generally grow up enjoying the freedom of not living in a city in addition to a more laid-back culture. They just aren't smart enough to realize how good it is or to stop doing dumb shit like jacking up their 93' pickups or dropping out of high-school.
City people generally get better educations but they obsess over other people's perceptions and fail to realize that this is a huge country and that they could have all the freedom and peace-of-mind they wanted if they just moved to a small town.
