>>3865122I used to life in a town near one of the biggest forests in the Netherlands(still small though). I liked biking there, it gave me some time to think and I liked being surrounded by nature. One evening in late autumn, I was in the middle of the woods and it got dark way earlier than I expected. I knew the cycle road pretty well so it was no problem finding the way back, but it became pitch black around me. I should mention these bike lains are 2 meters in width(around 6 feet), which is almost nothing at all. It's so narrow the trees still cover the night sky over the road, so there’s almost no lightning on the paths. I’m biking on this very long, narrow and straight cycling path with only my bike light eliminating the path in front of me, but apart from that total darkness. Then, far away (more than 500 m, I estimate) I see a bike light coming in my direction. It's literally the only thing I see in total darkness. Because we're so far away, a lot of time passes before we would actually meet. For a couple of minutes, we slowly come closer. It felt kinda uneasy, like we must both be completely aware of each others presence, but unable to communicate. It definitely made my skin crawl. The fucked up thing is, and I still can't come up with a good explanation why, is that when the person was around 70m in front of me, the lights just vanished. Just went away, turned of. I was scared shitless and was expecting him to be waiting there on me, but I figured it would be too late to turn around now so my only option was to go past him at full speed. I rode as quickly as possible, expecting to see him jump out of the darkness at once, but it didn't happen. I just keeped my eyes peeled to the road, and never saw a trace of him or his bike. From there I raced home as fast as I could, completely uninterrupted. Definitely one my strangest experiences so far.
