Depends on the place. Whenever I go to a place where the staff get like $2 tips because the prices are so low (looking at you, Waffle House and Steak 'n' Shake) I hand the waiter a ten and tell him to take care of us.
Best service you'll ever have, hands-down. Drinks refilled after taking a sip, "oh I brought the wrong milkshake I'll get you the right one" etc.
