You're mostly right, but there is more too the German involvement than the Italian invasion. Hitler didn't want too help Italy, as you said he didn't care. The issue was that after Metaxas died the Anglos send devisions too aid Greece, thus opening a potential souther front against the Axis. This is the reason Germany invaded, purely strategical one.
Yeah German occupation was quite brutal, mainly the counter-attacks. That wasn't a Greek exlcucivity from what I've read. For every dead German soldier Germans were too kill 10 innocents or something among those lines. Similar shit happened in Belgium, Yugo etc
