C, however, I think is a good choice for a first programming language to learn. It's simplicity makes it easy to lean the basics (things like the syntax, grammar, etc) and it's popularity lead to a lot of other programming languages copying its style. If you know C, learning something like Java, C++ or C# would be a lot easier since the syntax is almost identical.
