In Japan (Okinawa and a shit ton of other islands in WW2), Philippines, and Cuba soldiers were on the ground shooting at each other on actual islands and not just the belligerent home soils, since it was Spanish vs Americans and Japanese vs Americans (and other allies) both fighting on colonial islands at the time, 1812 happened on US and Canadian soil on the mainland.
