"video games" isn't really a hobby, it's about as much of one as movies or books.

Collecting video games is really fun though

What about the lore-exploring in Elder Scrolls? I think that takes time, money, and interest. In addition there are parallels in the real world to explore if you want to have even more in-depth knowledge about it.

I wouldn't call books a hobby just like I wouldn't call video games a hobby

If you spend a lot of time focusing on a video game and picking apart its lore then you're interested in lorebuilding and game theory which would be hobbies instead of just playing video games, if that makes sense. "Playing video games" is way too wide and generic. That would mean basically everyone in a first-world country, and many in third-world countries, all share the same hobby.

And yes, I said "at this point," because games used to not be so widespread. Perhaps not recently, but they were considered taboo, childish, or nerdy (or all of the above) for a long time, obviously.
