>>3962900Of the UK, they told me that all of America's common law systems are modeled after Great Britain's. While all other European nations today use a codified law system. Common law systems are better for determining the innocence of individuals on a case by case basis, while codified laws are much more "ritualized" and judges only play it by the books instead of judging the case as it is uniquely, at least most of the time. The UK, like the US, were among the most productive capitalist nations on Earth in the 1900s, the UK even more so in the 1800s.
Of France, the French helped invent the Metric system (specifically the Kg, by using a piece of space rock as the template for the weight), and had numerous famous successful chemists and scientists in the 1800s that helped shape modern sciences in the west. There have been 5 French Republics in the last 250 years I believe, I don't remember specifics of each one though.
Of Spain and Portugal, Spain used to be 5 or 6 different nations before the two most powerful ruling houses of the two largest "nations" (Crown of Aragon and Castilian Spain I think ) joined together to create a united Kingdom of Spain, this kingdom became extremely powerful and eventually became the Spanish empire. Before this however, most of southern Spain was under Moorish Muslim control for over 700 years. The Spanish empire was finally delt in by the Spanish-American war of 1898, but it was in general decline for a century before then.
