A tropical climate is very humid, has lots of rain, and is very hot.

The praries'd just be hot, and everything would just dry out.

Now, if you consider how harsh the winters already are in the praries, and then realize it would be much worse with climate change, you begin to understand what I'm getting at.

You guys realize it would take like 150 more years of industrial carbon output to raise the global temperature another 3-6C. Global climate change isn't an accurate way to describe what is currently happening, right now it is mostly regional climate fluctuations, that could lead to long term higher global temps, but not permanent (the Earth was actually hotter many millions of years ago, cooled down in the ice age, and is warming up again). In the US right now, the low elevation eastern half of the US is expected to get snowier winters in the next decade, and the high elevation western US is expected to get drier and remain the same temps it has always been for centuries, hot. Also hurricanes are going to become more common in the gulf states in the next decade as well.

We can reduce the carbon output greatly and use lots of renewable energy.

However, renewable energy is not reliable 100% of the time, so we can't get rid of non-renewable energy sources.

The best is to combine the two, and use both at the same time.

I want us to become better on renewable energy to, and combine it with our current nuclear energy and fossil fuel energy. The difficulty is Americans use a lot of electricity and renewable energy is still really expensive for normal people, right now on average even in the sunniest part of the US (the southwest) it costs about $10,000 USD to purchase and fully setup a home solar power system that takes your house "off the grid" and gives energy back to the grid. I did a couple papers on this in Environmental Biology class in college several semesters ago, it was pretty fun to research. But on average a southwestern US home needs about 30 sq meters of solar panels which costs at least $7,000 right now. I did this paper like a year ago when I just started college.

Solar energy isn't the only kind of renewable energy source.

The government should put money into investing and researching better and more affordable renewable energy sources, because you're right; it's expensive as fuck.

That's true, wind turbines are very productive, while tidal energy turbines are still too new to be used on large scale. The problem with any large moving physical structures though, is that they kill and disrupt animal migrations, both fish and birds, especially on large scales. Hydroelectric energy is used all over the US as well but it won't be enough to sate our energy needs in the coming decades. I think we need to combine all of them in moderation depending on the specific needs of each region, and solar is one of the most effective with the least environmental drawbacks right now, it's just really expensive still.
