Because he learned how to scout from Apache warriors in Arizona, then got caught up in the Pleasant Valley war and killed at least 2 men, fled Arizona because of the war there and him becoming to notorious among the battling factions. So he left to join the King's Army and fought for the British Empire in Africa, he used his same .45 Colt Single Action in Arizona and Africa. He was one of the few Americans to be awarded medals by the British Empire for his service with them, he gained his tracking and gun fighting skills in the old west of the USA first though.
