>>4026883This is true for industry, the south depended very heavily on their "farm equipment" and had poor metallic resources, but strong petroleum resources which were used to fuel the Confederate Navy which was the more powerful thing the south had built at the time. The Confederate Army was well supplied at the start of the war, but as the years waned on the north's industry began to quickly outpace the south's, the only resource the north had trouble getting was enough gun powder to supply to it's 500,000 soldiers and their artillery, so Lincoln bought some gun powder from Great Britain at the start of the war. During the war the south had amazing military commanders and formation, but lacked the size and industrial power the north had. The north also had several great commanders, many of them employed the "burn everything as you go" tactic near the end of the war, and the south suffered greatly from these burnings of entire cities by the northern forces.Today is the actually pretty similar, the north produces far more industry, specifically ship building and iron/steel working, while the south houses several prestigious military academies but still lacks the overall wealth of resources and industry that can be found in the north. However, when we all worked together in WW2, with the north pumping out hundreds of thousands of tanks and planes, and the south supplying and filling up field armies with troops manning that equipment, we were able to achieve greater power than had ever been achieved by the US up until then.
