I managed an Applebees for three years, and I noticed that nogs are very deliberate about not tipping--no matter what a server does, they will find fault with them.
They're often the most particular about their orders, too, which I suspect was just another way of trying to trip staff up. Modified orders take longer, which means they can complain about the wait time when another table gets their order first.
It always seemed to me that nogs spent their entire time dining seeking justification to avoid tipping. They were almost never dissatisfied enough with service to speak to ME, mind. The one time some nigress asked for a manager, it was because a female server working for me confronted her for not tipping. (Bad form, I know, but the bill was for a party of ten or so people.) When I asked what the problem with her service was, she complained that it had taken the girl too long to offer her a refill. That was it. No tip on a bill well in excess of one-hundred dollars because her fat ass didn't get another sixteen ounces of diet Pepsi in a timely fashion.
Worse still is that corporate monitored tips since wages had to cover the margin if the server wasn't making at least minimum wage. Servers whose wage had to be covered too often were assumed to be doing poorly and were fired. Basically, I had to assign tables by customers' skin color, always making sure that no single server had to wait on too make nogs during any one pay period.
