I have never actually had any real friends, I always declined any invitations to spend time with anyone and just kept to myself all my life when it was possible because i never liked any of these people

That happens to me because I love staying at home. An aggravator that applies to most people I've talked to is that I can't put up with their way to see life and most of their tastes. Also, I tend to hang around with people who like to be by themselves so it's complicated to arrange a meetup.

I socially isolated myself on purpose only for the last decade or so. Before that I actually purposely surrounded myself with people a lot, but because of the way I am I never could hang on to the same people for long. So I tended to flock from clique to clique over the years.

I'm not sure if you're talking about friendship or love, or the exact sweet spot between the two. But generally from what I've seen the more you question it the less you get. If you feel your mental state is suffering from a lack of social interaction, you do something about it. Your mind craves this interaction just like it craves food or anything else. So you don't think too far ahead. You just play the basic cues, follow the basic rules and get the need fulfilled.

I've been in love with someone for the majority of my life, not always the same person but always someone.
