I do understand and of course, your example shows that overpunishing is bad. It's desensitization, you didn't feel that what you were doing was bad or anything like that. The trick is to punish accordingly, don't beat the crap out of a kid for lesser offenses, that's stupid. Once in my entire life my dad has hit me in the face. That was something I will never forget, the physical pain was but a fraction of the psychical one. I knew exactly what was that for, I knew exactly that I should not do that. I shut up immedietaly, despite shooting my mouth off just a second ago. That's what's important, for the child to feel that they crossed the line when they do. For them to truly acknowledge their fault.
It just angers me, that it seems people either beat the hell out of their brats or carry them on their hands 24/7, that's not the way. I know it's hard to get it right, but at least try for fuck sake. I think you get what I mean.
