The French invented baguettes during Napoleon's reign. During long marches, French soldiers would run out of food. Unfortunately, there was no room in their backpacks for bread. Thus, the baguette was invented. French soldiers were able to store two baguettes on their person, one in each pant leg. The slim design of the masterfully crafted baguette made it perfect for storing it this way.
