>>4376692Yes being a healthy individual is important before going on any Antarctic expedition. Especially because of the remoteness, extremely harsh weather and elevations at some stations (for eg. Vostok is at 11,400ft 3400m, a night can last 130 days in some places), and the length of time most expeditions take (6 months to a year).
>>4378426They do, but not very many at all. If you consider you only need about 1 or 2 doctors per 1,000 people, then you might only need about 10 doctors for all of Antarctica. Most people there are scientific researchers of various kinds (Astronomers, Geologists, Meteorologists, and Biologists etc. etc.). The best way to get hired for an expedition (if you are qualified and healthy) is to lookup all the research companies in the Antarctic and the positions available, and try and get on-board for a summer expedition, because they are the most common and need the most people. Also if you get injured or sick at a very remote base without a doctor, you might have to wait weeks or be flow over 1,000 miles to get professional medical help.
