>>4338327I used to live in a small town in Arizona where literally 69% of the population was Latino or Hispanic. They built a Catholic church in town and that was where everything happens for most of them. Huge get togethers, town-wide fiestas, people would cook green chilies and lots of Mexican food at the towns' social area (the church, a plaza dedicated to the town century old Copper mining business). Spanish was more spoken on the streets than English, and I picked up a good bit of it living there for two years (I'm non-Hispanic white). People were friendly and nice. Unfortunately there was a lot of poverty, but not much crime, in fact I didn't encounter any crime living there for 2 years. The worst thing that I encountered were "gangster" types, bald heads and tattoos and fast mouths, but they never bothered me personally. It is a very small town, less than 3,200 people, in the mountains east of Phoenix, 900m above sea level (low for AZ). It basically reminds you of rural Mexico, but without the crime. There are even more almost completely Hispanic towns in far southern AZ near the border, such as Douglas (86% Hispanic), I've been to many of them and they are all quite similar.
