The 2 Jewish branches, Sephradites and Askhenazis both claim continuity from the Jews who fleed Israel during the Roman exile, with Sephradites going too Spain and Askhenazis mostly ending up in Poland. You could argue that the Askhenazis are actually genetically Europeans for the most part but this still does't declassify Jews as an ethnic group
