I don't get how people unironically like this garbage.

Personally, I don’t like modern rap. That being said the beat of each to each song is rather good imo. In general I like the instrumentals of the rap. As for the appeal I don’t know man, maybe it became popular because it’s easy to churn out and sell. Then it became a standard genre

I personally like rock and vapor wave like music

So far this has been the single good thing about all the rap i ever listened to, with the actual rap, as in the atrocious lyrics themselves, being nothing but a hindrance to my enjoyment of them.
It's not like the rappers themselves ate the ones that make the beats, they just """"sing"""" over them.
how this ever got popular in the first place is beyond me.

The appeal of hip-hop to me is in the techniques used by the rappers. Their flows (ability to deliver lyrics over the beat intact), rhyme schemes and wordplay. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2ah9CtlaEs for rhyme schemes for example.
You've got to be a little autistic to find and appreciate little details like that. And what's better is that you find more of these each time you listen to songs. And each time it makes you go "how does he do that?", which is great.

It's a good genre. But it's not about the music or singing, it's about the wit of the rapper and the way he's rapping. It certainly isn't for everyone and I dislike how it's being purposedly dumbed down to be repetitive and boring by certain artists to fit into mainstream niche. It's cancer.

I absolutely hate the culture that has been created from modern rap. It causes me to detest the genre as well but, I can't deny that there are some guys out there who put out quality stuff. They don't just rap about stupid shit but instead create poetry. The actually artistic form of rapping can be intense, emotional, and overwhelmingly enjoyable but incredibly difficult to find.

Still not really my think but i can at least why some people like it.
What i still don't get it is why this isn't the type of rap that gets popular, but it's the senseless repetetive trash that i see everywhere.

I would make every newcomer to rap listen to "Dance With The Devil" by Immortal Technique. It's exactly what you said, intense and emotional. I almost shed a tear the first time I heard it. It's a bit naive but powerful. Deals with the gangster culture, too.

It's easier to commercialize it because the entry threshold / learning curve is lowered. People like club bangers.
Though sometimes even popular rap is great, but people overlook it. Like this guy for example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zjV0m5MI8k At first it seems like he's just rapping nonsense, but if you look into it the lyrics are riddled with references and wordplay, with insane rhyming on top of that.
There's a lot of theory. A lot of different distinct styles. That's nerdy shit if you get into it. But that's what makes it interesting.

nobody actually likes rap they just listen to it because it's pushed on them. music journalism is notorious for rating hip hop albums 20-40% higher than they should be, garbage like kendrick being the best example.

not all hip hop is bad but it has severe limitations as a genre and very few can make it work without being derivative of better artists before them, or branching into other genres. it's why literally every soundcloud trapper sounds the same, because it's a formula that works while being incredibly easy to produce (as in actual production). there is no incentive for rappers to experiment or do better when following the crowd yields the best results, and so the entire genre stagnates.
