Since I mostly posted American and some Russian tanks last time, I'll post some German tanks this time. This is a Panzer III, these tanks were very weak on armor and were outclassed by M4 Shermans and Russian T34s, yet were effective against infantry.

The Germans like to build tanks in progressing order, and did not build a wide variety of tanks, like the US and Russia did. The Panzer progress from I to IV, while the Tiger progressed from I to II as did the later Leopard. The Panzer II was also very weak on armor and could only be used effectively against infantry

The Panzer IV was the best Panzer out of teh series of Panzer tanks made by Germany during WW2. It still was vulnerable to T34s and Shermans, but could also knock them out as well.

The Tiger I (designated Panzer VI sometimes), was the first German heavy tank deployed ever. It was heavy, slow, and often unreliable. But had enough frontal armor to keep up with Soviet KV-1s, and presented a major foe for Shermans and T34s on the battlefield.

The designations on German tanks during WW2 were all over the place, so I'll just refer to their common names mostly. For example a Tiger I could be a PzV and a PzVI

Yeah the Panther is usually called the PzKpfwV and the Tiger I the PzKpfwVI, but many early Tigers were sometimes given the designation PzKpfwV, which of course confuses the heck out of me. There was also a Panther II tank, but idk what standard designation they gave it.

Ok upon further research, the Panther I was originally called the PzKpfw V, but the V designation was dropped and given to the first Tiger I's. While upgraded later Tigers wore the VI and VII designations.

the tigers designated V were after late 1944 when Hitler ordered that the panther no longer be given that numeral (guy was nutty)
the 'panther II' is really the panther G but because of the above order by Hitler became II after.
the factories kept the old designations as they built them though

Then post war, West Germany introduced the Leopard I in 1965. Some Leopard I's still exist in some military inventories, such as Norway and Turkey.

they use the extended PZIV chassis that the Hummer spg used not the Tiger one
just look at the pics you posted, wheels are completely different
the elefant had no mgs a design flaw that saw them over run by ground troops when first deployed during the battle of Kursk

This is another case of them changing it later on, but the early Elefants used Tiger I hulls, then they switched to lighter easier to make hulls later on. The standard weight of the Elefant was just 3 tonnes lighter than a Tiger II.

they used the tiger hull but not the chassis
they also used the PZIVs engine which was under powered for the vehicles weight but they needed to fit it forward of the gun compartment, overall the design was a failure and they only made them for a short time switching to the jagd types of panther and tiger instead

Yes you are right, looks like I mixed up hulls with chassis. Most German tanks in WW2 were under powered, including Tigers, so were Soviet KV-2s.

Centurions were good tanks as well. That's cool you can own them down there, you can own tanks in the US but most of the time the gun has to be disabled. Most people own Shermans in the US.
