Maybe it is because as artists they are constantly exposed to other artists' works and have to read hundreds of doujins for reference and because of hedonic adaptation they need to produce even more degenerate stuff to feel their own works are good, when in reality it even ends up too extreme for most people.
It is interesting to try to understand how and how much is a hentai artist's mind warped because of his job. I suspect this happens in different degrees, and only a minority might be too messed up in their heads. I was going to post this artist (ishikei) as an example of the opposite but much to my dismay I just found some of his most recent works include blacked garbage.
My point seems to stand still, there is at least some correlation. The better the quality of the art, the more extreme the fetishes it is used to represent.
